Date of trip: Sept. 18-20, 2009 Location: Gettysburg, PA Summary: Our troop went to Gettysburg to do the 10 mile hike at the famous Gettysburg Civil War Battlefield Park. Everyone went on the 10 mile hike except for me, Johny III, my mom, and Mr. Johny. We went on the Eisenhower tour. It was fun, we got to see the Eisenhower farm and we got to talk to a woman about President Eisenhower’s side career of raising award winning bulls. It was also fun because they had a huge WW2 weekend in a huge field at the Eisenhower Estate. This is where a whole bunch of old style WW2 tents were setup and in them were stuff like medical equipment. They also had different sections set up that were assigned to each army group (airborne, infantry, navy, etc.). Even though there were some disputes, the ghost tour was fun. Before the ghost tour we had time to spare so we went into a gun/knife store, it had guns and knifes from all different time periods. The ghost tour was fun, especially because Mrs. Jody took a picture of me and there was an orb (ghost) right by my face, and the fact that "Spooky" put on a pretty good show. Overall it was a very fun trip. |

This year on the Star Rank and above trip we went on a sailing expedition. This trip was a complete surprise to all of us. We had no idea what we were in for. We arrived at a marina in Rock Hall and to all of our surprise we learned we would be sailing on small boats, in the 30’ range. We were originally supposed to be separated into two groups on smaller boats, but since there had been stormy weather we got upgraded to the “Titanic” of sailboats! This boat was over 42’ long and had a very spacious underbelly with a fully equipped kitchen. So we set sail onto the open water. We used the engines at first and then opened the sails and let nature determine our course. We sailed for a good while until the climax of our trip arrived. Nate puked and caused us all to move to the front of the boat to possibility of getting puked on. Once we had all moved forward we never wanted to go back. We all sat on the deck, got splashed with waves, and had ourselves a dandy ole time. But finally, it was time to return home so we took the wind out of our sails and headed back home. All together it was an awesome trip but next year, Nate would enjoy a trip on land. |
